I intended to finish Chapter Three this evening and by hook and by crook, it’s done. I think when I come to revisit this draft, I’m probably going to shorten it because it took a long time to get to the end point after the picnic.

I enjoyed writing it, it’s been fun to write Kate and Little Jimmy together. I’ve had to adjust Kate’s age down to fifteen to make future events work better and to bring her more into Jimmy’s age group. I hope the fact that I like them both shines through. I think it will with Kate, I’m not so sure with Jimmy as, for the story’s sake, I can’t let him be something he isn’t, whereas I can adjust Kate to better fit the narrative and events.

I did my best to keep the picnic from being ‘romantic’ whilst still exploring the fact that Jimmy is besotted with Kate.
