As promised, I got some work done on Chapter 4 today. Given the marks I need to hit on this part, I may break the Chapter into two. We’ll see.
Jimmy gets a talking-to from the Old Man, who has calmed Mr. Matthews’ temper and kept the lad’s job, although not all of his pay for that month. Bessie lightens up on him and gives her perspective on Family-Servant relations. It took a little longer than I wanted to, particularly since all I had to achieve was putting Jimmy back on the rails, but it was important to make a few points and to soften up Bessie’s character a little. I still don’t think she really likes Jimmy, but she’s not as callous as he’d thought.
One other issue stems from the way I’m working this on the web through blogs and pages. This is all a first-draft effort, so it’s going to be rough around the edges, but I’ve noticed that there’s no way to include a standard © notice on a free wordpress.com site. Legally, this isn’t necessary to receive protection of rights, but I’m acutely aware that legal protection is no protection at all.
What I might end up doing is stopping the page updates and only blog post about events. I don’t really want to do that, but it’s an option. We’ll see.
