Milestone!
Well, I’m at a milestone point. About two hours after getting my single Word document broken up into the five chapters and loaded into Google Docs for my new Chromebook – a process simpler than I’d expected – I’m at the point of having completed everything I wanted to get done for Chapter Five. Awesome plus!
I think I’ve set the thread I need for a crucial plot point and I’m happy I’m on the right road for my soapbox piece. Great! So why isn’t everything feeling super fantastic?
Chapter Posts To End?
Well, first off this is what Brené Brown called an ‘SFD.’ Not to put too fine a point on it, that means an unpolished First Draft – unpolished, obviously starting with an ‘S’. While I’m perfectly happy to share off my work, beyond this point it doesn’t seem to be very productive. I have enough – perhaps? – to pique the interest of anyone who might want to either read the book when it finally makes it into print, or better yet, help out as a Beta Reader, but publishing more seems unnecessary, unless I get more interest.
So, as things stand, anyone who’s interested in following this dog out of the park and being involved in the details, drop me an email and I’ll let you know how things are going to pan out – just as soon as I figure it out for myself.
There will be blog posts. Right now, I’m at a turning point for Little Jimmy and anyone following along might be forgiven for being surprised that the story is not about him, after all. Bear in mind, my working title is The Old Man, so what could you expect?
Who Am I, Anyway?
Well, who cares?
The issue at hand is that the name this is currently based on is a combination of names I used playing Élite. Not that there’s any reason to care, but the name Owen is from a weird dream I had about thirty years ago and Wolfe is because Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone is the second best movie ever made. After all the Tremors movies and a bunch of others I like too. Anyway, it seemed fun to use my Élite: Dangerous commander name because I intend to write fan fiction too, but wouldn’t you know, there’s an Owen Wolfe already published, a 24 page, Kindle-only book that would not fit with my writing style, so either I write under my own given name (like THAT’S going to happen) or I come up with a nom-de-plume for my nom-de-jeu.
It’s a nuisance, and one I didn’t bargain on. I mean, I made the name up – why are there people out there with the audacity to have it already? The nerve…
