The Penultimate Post of 2018…
…wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t start with an excuse. Obviously the run-up to Christmas is very busy and obviously I seem incapable of correctly judging my workload for that week in particular (if no other) so the task of writing this post has slid so far to the right that I’m not going to make my self-imposed 9:00 Monday deadline.
Ah well.
It’s Christmas Eve and if my tardy post is the worst thing that happens today, all will be well with the world!
Also, if it really bothers you, I think you’re Christmasing wrong…
My Birthday.
Today’s post is going to be short, not just because I’m behind schedule, but because it’s they day I get whole a year older overnight.

Steak & Kidney Pie.
Having a Christmas Eve birthday has gotten somewhat inconvenient since the kids showed up, so this year I thought that if I started celebrating with dinner the night before and ended at the same time on the 24th, that’d leave some time to prep for Santa and there’d be one night I could stay up late without regretting it because the next thing I know it’s 6 o’clock on Christmas morning and the kids are up and ready.

Home-made Black Forest Gateaux.
So, it’s going to be a relaxed day today. Unlike yesterday because, just like I can’t accurately gauge the work that is needed in any particular week, I’m also incapable of accurately judging the work required for home-made steak and kidney pie to be followed by home-made black forest gateaux.
It was delicious and worth every bit of the effort involved, so a quick shout-out to the wife for her hard work. I didn’t mind helping out, but my help was mostly confined to cutting up the meat and keeping the dishes from mounting up too high.
Up Next…
The next post should be written on schedule and posted on time and I’ll either deal with my personal plans for the New Year or the plans for Old Man. I haven’t decided yet because although I’m excited about the lifestyle changes I have planned, it has been brought to my attention that ‘New Year, New Me‘ has become rather, well, bleh…
I may do it anyway because this blog is more about personal accountability than anything else, but it might be more useful to write about my plans ahead of the second read-through to try to bring the second revision effort into laser focus.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday, whether or not you celebrate Christmas.
Stay warm and safe, have a wonderful week and if you have any preferences on what the next post should be about, drop me a line.
