Mission Complete!
It feels like it’s taken for ever, but I’ve finally made it to the end, with some dedicated reading on Friday and Saturday. Not that I felt like it on either day.
Work To Do.
So I’ve filled up my 88-cent composition book from Wal-Mart with some seventeen hundred suggested changes, ranging from missing commas and simple typos, to much more demanding changes to certain sections.
Sub Plots.
I also will need to consider whether certain sub plots should be added in, especially since I ripped out the details of the subterfuge that was taking place between Mr. Matthews and the Colonel.
New Thematic Elements.
There are some other thematic elements that I’ll be considering including. In particular to highlight the dystopian world in which the story is set because that still needs some work.
Additionally, I’m not sure whether this story and Black Box Factory belong in the same world – I’d like them to, but I have no intention of forcing the issue. If I do, I’ll need to include some other elements, and probably tie those in with some new subplots.
Character Development.
There are also a number of characters with a good amount of room for development, and they offer some fertile ground for other elements of tension, as well as their unique perspectives on life working at Blackwater Estate.
There’s really not much more I can say, mostly because the ideas are still very vague. I’ll need to put some meat on those bones before I start.
Gamma Reading.
The next revision is destined for my Gamma Reader. I need to not lose sight of that in the rework. Stay tuned if you’re interested in being a Beta Reader…
Up Next…
As usual, last week was exceptionally busy – which is something of a contradiction – and the upcoming week looks like it’ll be no different, so I don’t expect to make much progress on the next revision before next week’s post.
Sometimes it can be almost impossible to gain access to the family computer, so I’ll probably break it all back up into separate chapter-files for Google Docs so I can work using the Chromebook, and then rework it into Scrivener afterwards. I want to run through it one last time using Scrivener to make sure I’m keeping the characters and scenes straight.
Other than that, we’re getting the shelving in for the pantry this week. That’ll keep me busy for at least the first few days. Then there’s a ton of other work to do around the place that will get prioritized over The Old Man. I’ll work on it as and when I can.
Have a great week everyone.
